First post – What’s next?
Hello, I’m Gustavo Parolin, and I have something to tell you: Life is short.
When I was a teenager back in Brazil, I dreamed of travelling around the world, meeting different people, visiting new places, and experiencing new points of view. Then I got an invite to play bass in a heavy metal band. I saw my future being written. I would become a rock star, earning millions of dollars and travelling worldwide. After five albums and hundreds of concerts, there were no fortune or world tours. The band members became “responsible adults,” including me. There were twenty-five years of fun and joy, and that was fun!
Aside from my music career, I graduated as a software developer, and I worked for the same company for 25 years: big money, but not much travelling. Then I got an invite to become a scuba dive instructor. Can you picture myself visiting paradises all around the world? I did! I visited more than 30 countries, watching my dream come true. That was fun too!
Then I met my wife, and we decided to move to Vancouver. New life. New language. New dreams. New everything. After settling down, I started questioning myself: What’s next?
I see an excellent opportunity to start a new career.
I developed a passion for teaching when I was a dive instructor.
What if I mix my technological knowledge with instruction? What if I start working remotely as a teacher? Then I can travel to some paradises, dive in the morning, teach in the afternoon, and play in the evening?
Life is short, so I better run.
